Lumileds expands Penang manufacturing to boost advanced automotive lighting

Lumileds, a global leader in advanced LED and automotive lighting and general illumination solutions, today announced a major expansion of its world-class manufacturing operations in Penang, Malaysia.

Lumileds’ Penang operations serve as the foundation and centerpiece of the company’s global production network.

Lumileds has deep roots in the region dating back decades to its origins as part of Hewlett-Packard’s pioneering optoelectronics division.

This latest expansion marks the next chapter in the continuous evolution of Lumileds’ workforce, technological capabilities, and manufacturing footprint.

Key Production and Technology Transfers

In addition to its existing capabilities—which span a wide array of LED processes, packaged LEDs, and integrated assemblies for consumer, automotive, and commercial applications—Lumileds has successfully added production lines to its Penang facilities as part of an effort to increase the efficiency of its operations and in support of strong growth in customer demand.

• LUXEON Go and LUXEON LxN Production Lines
• : The company is establishing two high-volume production lines for LUXEON Go in one of its two Penang-based manufacturing facilities.
• LUXEON Go is a market-first, world-class integrated solution engineered specifically for automotive headlights and advanced lighting assemblies.
• Additionally, Lumileds has started production of its integrated LUXEON LxN LED vehicle signaling solution from its Penang manufacturing base.

• Thin Film Flip Chip (TFFC) Process
• : Lumileds is transferring its market-leading TFFC process to the region, embedding industry-leading performance technology directly into the Penang ecosystem.
